5 Tips to Keep Your Scooter Running Smoothly

A well-maintained mobility scooter not only keeps you moving safely but also saves you time, money, and unexpected headaches. Here are 5 simple tips to keep your scooter running at its best — whether you’re using it daily or just occasionally.
1. Charge the Battery Regularly
Even if you’re not riding daily, keeping your battery topped up helps maintain its health.
Tip: Charge after every use or at least once every few days.
Avoid fully draining it before recharging, especially with lithium batteries.
2. Check Tyres and Tread
Flat or worn tyres can make the scooter harder to control and reduce safety — especially outdoors.
Inspect tyres weekly for cracks or low pressure (if pneumatic).
Solid tyres? Check for uneven wear or damage.
3. Clean the Scooter (But Not with a Hose!)
Dust and grime can build up on wheels and moving parts.
Wipe down with a damp cloth — never use a hose or submerge any part of the scooter.
Focus on the wheels, footrest, and seat to keep things comfortable and hygienic.
4. Inspect the Controls and Brakes
Before each ride, test the throttle, horn, and braking system.
If anything feels loose or unresponsive, get it checked right away.
Also, keep an eye out for any unusual noises or warning lights.
5. Book an Annual Service (or Sooner if Needed)
Even if everything seems fine, a yearly check-up by a professional helps catch issues early and keeps your warranty valid.
At Sunshine Coast Mobility, we can recommend trusted local service providers — or assist you directly depending on your model.
Bonus Tip: Store It Safely
Keep your scooter out of direct rain and sun, ideally under cover or inside. Exposure to the elements can damage electronics and tyres over time.
